The weather in Jamaica is fairly mild but the island still has its version of seasons and some fluctuations in the temperature, precipitation and of course, the off chance every now and then of a tropical storm or hurricane. But even rainy season in Jamaica can be stunningly beautiful and, in places like Negril, sunny skies give way to an afternoon downpour that usually lasts a few hours, perfect napping weather, and then dries up again for you to return to playing in the sun.
July and August are typically the hottest months in Jamaica with average temperatures reaching 29°C (83°F) while the coldest month on the island is usually January at 25°C (76°F). The wettest month is October with an average of 130mm of rain while the best month to swim in the sea is in August when the average sea temperature is 29°C (84°F).
High Season for tourism in Jamaica is December 15-April 15 when the island’s already excellent weather is at its best and for the most part, the rest of world’s is at its worst. Expect rates to be 30% higher than usual however, long lines at the airport and hotels over flowing with guests – book early to ensure availability. Low season, on the other hand, sees rates for accommodation slashed anywhere from 20-60%, warmer temperatures (with the odd chance of a hurricane) and plenty half empty beaches.
