The following is a list of public holidays observed in Jamaica:
New Year’s Day (January 1)
Ash Wednesday (February 10)
Good Friday (March 25)
Easter Monday (March 28)
Labour Day (May 23)
Emancipation Day (August 1)
Independence Day (August 6)
National Heroes Day (October 17)
Christmas Day (December 25)
Boxing Day (December 26)
If the actual day of observance falls on a weekend, the public holiday will be given on the next business day.
Major commercial business such as banks, public facilities such as schools and clinics and government offices are always closed on these holidays. Depending on the holiday, some gas stations, supermarkets, and smaller businesses will remain open. Hospitals and police stations are always open.
